One number, one date
"Save more" fades by February. "$2,600 by December 31" gives you something to check.

How much to save in the new year
Find a goal on the left to see what it takes each week, each paycheck if you're paid every two weeks, and each month. Amounts are rounded up to the nearest dollar.
Savings needed by yearly goal
| Yearly goal | Per week | Every 2 weeks | Per month |
| $1,000 | $20 | $39 | $84 |
| $1,378 | $27 | $53 | $115 |
| $2,600 | $50 | $100 | $217 |
| $5,050 | $98 | $195 | $421 |
| $10,000 | $193 | $385 | $834 |
$1,378 is what the classic 52-week challenge adds up to, and $5,050 is the 100 envelope challenge. If you'd rather have a chart to fill in than a fixed amount, the printables for both are free.
Start next Christmas fund on January 1
If this year's Christmas cost more than you planned, the new year is the easiest time to fix it. Divide next year's holiday budget by 52 and start in January: an $800 Christmas is about $16 a week, compared with $100 a week if you wait until the last 8 weeks. The Christmas countdown calculator shows how the weekly amount climbs the later you start.
Common questions
What day is New Year's 2027?
New Year's Day 2027 is Friday, January 1, and New Year's Eve is Thursday, December 31, 2026. From December 1 there are 31 days to go, and from Christmas Day there are 7. The countdown on this page shows the exact time left until midnight where you are.
How much should I save each week next year?
Divide your goal by 52. A $2,600 goal is $50 a week, or $100 per paycheck if you're paid every two weeks. A $1,000 goal is about $20 a week. The planner on this page does the math for your goal and pay schedule.
How much does the 52-week savings challenge save?
The classic 52-week challenge saves $1 in week 1, $2 in week 2 and so on up to $52, for a total of $1,378 by the end of the year. You can also do it in reverse, starting with $52, so the biggest deposits come first.
How much does the 100 envelope challenge save?
Filling 100 envelopes numbered $1 to $100 adds up to $5,050. Spread over a full year that's about $97 a week. A 50-envelope version saves $1,275.
How do I make a money resolution stick?
Make it one specific number with a date, like $2,600 by December 31, then break it into a payday amount and set an automatic transfer for that day. A goal that moves on its own doesn't depend on willpower in March.
